EW.
No, really. I just finished eating there for the first time and my taste buds are angry with me.
I think it goes without saying that standards for sushi restaurants are set pretty high. For god's sake, it's raw fish! But when the salmon is mushy and the hamachi is rubbery, there's a problem.
Don't get me wrong, the restaurant is not without it's good points. The sushi bar is comfortable and actually has foot rests...something that most others in this town do not have. And, at $19.95 for all you can eat sushi (lunch is only $14.95) including miso soup, cucumber or seaweed salad, and green tea for desert, it is just a little better than the Reno/Sparks norm. However, I guess this place stands up to the old adage "you get what you pay for".
If you aren't down for the raw sushi, you are in luck. This place has a HUGE menu of cooked rolls....unfortunately, most of them are poorly executed. There are flavors and sauces missing. The seared ahi and grilled scallops are served cold. Ice cold. And, unless you are big on tempura shrimp, your palate is sure to be disappointed.
And, please, someone, teach these people how to make a good quail egg shooter. I was left with the taste of bile creeping up after I did one of theirs....either that or it was the heavy vinegar flavor that just lingered in the back of my throat.
Sorry Sushi House, you just weren't as good as we had hoped. Luckily, we've still got ShangHai right next door.....but that's a different review.
